Turnip Kaskinauris root in the ground

Originally from Finland, these were types of turnip sown after burning the land. ‘Kaski’ means an area cleared by fire, and ‘nauris’ means turnip. This turnip goes back several hundred years to the time when land was managed this way. Flattened disc-like in shape and purple skinned with, occasionally, a yellow underside.
